I will preface this by saying that I do not know all of the figures that are used to calculate the state budget. As I see it just about anyone that knows simple math could do better than the fucksticks in Sacramento. So with that in mind here is my suggestion for a fix. This fix would take about 6 or 7 years to completely fix the entire system. First allow the state to run a deficit of no more than say 6 or 7 billion. Then, taking an idea from a current legislator, reduce the state sales tax to 1% but WITHOUT raising vehicle fees and income taxes. Second, remove or dramatically scale back red tape and regulation that scares big business away from this state. If you make it so that businesses would be foolish NOT to bring their factories/distribution centers etc, it would create a huge amount of jobs meaning MORE revenue for the state. What the current bigwigs in Sac fail to realize is the very basic engine of our economy. Good Economic Growth = The Public Buying Goods and Services… Its really that simple. Like it or not this is how the system works. A suggestion for state worker union negotiators and the administation. Allow pension roll backs for NEW hires to the admin desired 1999 levels. Also, state workers agree to no wage increases for topped out salaries for 5 years or sooner if the economy rebounds sooner than expected. I know being a state worker myself I will hear “Why no wage increases?” My response is the NEW hires made sacrifices so should everyone else. The union will make no other concessions. Meaning not giving up post and bid and no 12 hour shifts etc. The administration would agree to not impliment furloughs of any fashion nor fed minimum wage. Basically thats it. You can’t cut consumers wages and then wonder and complain that the economy it bad. Make California a place where businesses thrive and we would never have to worry about budget impasses again.
